Your Safety is our Top Priority!

As a South Calgary Family Dentist, Dimension Dentistry is committed to your dental health & safety at all times. We are proud of our sterilization and infection control procedures. In light of the current COVID-19 pandemic, we understand that many of our patients have questions about possible risks involved when visiting a health care practitioner of any kind, as well as questions about our clinic’s safety practices and procedures.

Our staff tirelessly implement Covid-19 protocols and safety measures, ensuring our office is safe and welcoming. We meet and exceed the Alberta Dental Association and Canadian Dental Association safety and sterilization guidelines with hospital grade sterilization equipment.

Our COVID-19 Safe Practice Plan

Dimension Dentistry has always prioritized the health and safety of our patients and team. However, in light of the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have instituted additional protocols to ensure your safety. You will see many changes, from new ways of scheduling your appointments to new protocols to ensure your safety and that of our team. Below is a list of some of the enhanced precautions we have taken to protect you, in addition to extensive team training on infection control and patient management procedures.

  • Pre-Screening procedures for patients at the time of booking
  • AHS Screening of all patients & staff before entering the clinic
  • Touchless temperature recording upon arrival
  • Constant hand sanitizing of all patients and staff, with hand sanitizer positioned throughout the clinic
  • Enhanced and frequent disinfection of all contact surfaces
  • All patients, accompanying adults, and team members wear masks at all times when inside the practice. We can provide one for you if you do not have your own.
  • Enhanced complete Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that follows recommended guidelines from Alberta Health Services and the Alberta Dental Association and College, including Level 3 masks, face-shields, long-sleeve gowns, and headcovers for all clinical team members.
  • Reduced waiting room chairs and increased spacing of reception room seating and removal of all non-essential surface items (such as magazines, toys, books, etc.) that can harbour or transfer germs of any kind.
  • Social Distancing — to facilitate distancing and minimize contact.
  • Tempered glass barriers at reception.
  • Patient check-in via a phone call from the parking lot while they wait in their vehicle until we are ready, proceeding directly to the operatory.
  • Providing teledentistry services for follow-up lab reports or communication that can be done online or through video education.
  • Online forms (which are mobile and easy) required from all new patients can be filled out beforehand.

Please be assured that our plan is thorough and is put in place with your health and safety in mind. It will continue to evolve as we continue to learn how to best manage health and safety protocol. This section will be updated regularly and accordingly. Please feel free to contact us at any time should you have any questions regarding your health and safety.

What are our Health and Safety Measures?

Besides our hospital grade sterilization process, our practitioners and hygienists wear gloves, masks, and protective eyewear as a protective barrier. Anything that goes into the patient’s mouth is either used only once and disposed of or is sterilized in our state-of-the-art sterilization lab.

Sterilization Processes We Use:

1. Miele Dental Instrument Washer/Disinfector: All instruments are washed to remove visible surface contaminants in a state-of-the-art washer/disinfector before being placed in the Autoclave.

2. Autoclave (pressurized steam): All dental instruments and handpieces (drills) are sterilized in a high-pressure steam autoclave after each use. This process is the standard of care. Our computerized autoclave warns us in the event of an incomplete sterilization cycle, and we have protocols in place to correct such issues immediately. As an added precaution, we also use an external biological indicator test to ensure that our autoclave functions appropriately and produces sterile instruments.

3. Surface Decontamination: All surfaces including countertops, dental chairs, stools, light handles, and control buttons are disinfected with chemical solutions before and after every patient. These solutions are not only formulated to eliminate infectious bacteria and viruses that could otherwise proliferate on these surfaces, but the chemicals themselves pose no health threat to our patients.

3. Disposable Items: Many of the items we use today are discarded after a single-use. These items include saliva ejectors, high-speed suction tips, drinking cups, rubber cleaning cups, patient bibs, tray covers, sterilization bags, mixing pads, mixing tips, anesthetic carpules and needle tips, among others. Gloves and masks are also discarded after each use.
